0:57

0:59

up with a a lot of stuff on our own but

1:01

Hey listen if there's anything that

1:04

people want us to know on either put it

1:06

in the comments send us an email or just

1:09

you know just let us know one way or the

1:11

other and we'd love to pick up on some

1:14

of the things that you guys are sitting

1:15

there going hey wait a second what about

1:17

this this week we're GNA talk about

1:20

goals versus plans now when I think of

1:23

goals versus plans I think of Mike Tyson

1:25

says Everybody's Got A Plan until

1:28

they're punched in the mouth you know

1:30

it's one of those things where you just

1:32

sit there going a plan is a plan is a

1:35

plan but guess what if your plan doesn't

1:38

have flexibility into it if it doesn't

1:41

have resilience into it if it's not if

1:43

you're not adaptable you're going to

1:45

fail based on your plan so seea let's

1:50

chew on this let's gnaw on this young

1:54

man all right you know on this I'll chew

1:56

on this and we we'll we'll get to the

1:58

middle together well speaking of chewing

2:00

and you know me you're sitting there top

2:02

of Mike Tyson until everything's going

2:04

BL great to plan until you get punched

2:06

in the face or if you're Evander

2:08

Holyfield until you're bit in the

2:11

ear dump and then you said chew which

2:15

really just kind of like is building

2:17

into well I was trying to set you up for

2:19

it but you you kind of missed it but

2:21

that's all right I mean I got it and I

2:23

missed it and I caught it and I was like

2:25

oo am I really going to go there cuz

2:26

that's really chewable that's just a

2:28

chewable tasty treat

2:30

that is definitely chewable treat

2:31

anybody who doesn't know what we're

2:32

looking at that's the beauty of YouTube

2:35

you know if if you're if you're not old

2:37

enough to understand what we're talking

2:38

about YouTube is your buddy Google or or

2:43

duck ducko whatever browser searching

2:45

software you have yeah 100% um okay so

2:48

look my friend a plan is a plan and by

2:50

the way a plan is not a bad thing

2:52

necessarily there are people like me

2:54

that need plans in life otherwise uh we

2:57

just don't like I'll just like aimlessly

2:59

run around wherever and doing whatever

3:01

and woohoo you know squirrel and then

3:03

more squirrels and then oh wait Duck

3:05

Right like so yeah plans I think

3:07

absolutely are great it is meant to be I

3:10

think a great um like um like little

3:13

Milestone tickers right but at any point

3:17

in time if you're Paving a road and you

3:19

realize you're in the middle like

3:21

there's a big mountain in the way that

3:23

is just not passible you're going to

3:24

have to Pivot right accordingly so yeah

3:28

no I cannot tell you how much I believe

3:31

in planning but plan to change it too

3:34

like plan to fail plan to see you

3:39

know what I mean it's gonna happen are

3:41

you adaptable I look at I at plans I I

3:45

look at plans as a place to start okay

3:47

yes you know it allows us to take step

3:50

one maybe step two three four five six

3:52

and seven but after step seven you know

3:56

what something could go wrong you

3:57

sitting there going you you made

3:59

assumptions

4:00

you you know you you thought something

4:02

was going to happen that it wasn't going

4:04

to happen you you know you you you

4:06

planned for the inevitable and the

4:08

inevitable actually came to place

4:10

whatever it is the thing is most people

4:15

fail because they rely on plans because

4:19

they sit there go oh my plans was wrong

4:21

so therefore obviously this is not going

4:23

to come together sorry throw up my hand

4:24

sorry we're done if we focus on goals we

4:28

say okay where we going and why what are

4:31

we going to be able to achieve once we

4:33

get there and why is that important you

4:36

know how do we bring people into the

4:39

thing and get them to believe in the

4:40

goal how do we get them to understand

4:43

what happens when we don't achieve the

4:45

goal when we can get people bought in

4:47

they they're they're they're listening

4:50

to the story they're believing in the

4:51

story and they see it they s they go

4:53

okay this plan didn't work obviously

4:55

something was wrong wait a second what

4:56

went wrong okay good that went wrong

4:58

okay let's build new plan and to start

5:00

and move forward sometimes you have to

5:02

go over sometimes you have to go under

5:04

sometimes you have to go around you know

5:06

what if you have a goal if you know

5:08

where you're going it doesn't matter if

5:11

your plan blows up because you're still

5:13

heading in that direction you're just

5:15

sit they're going okay that didn't work

5:18

how do we now what do we do and that's

5:21

the difference between in my mind goals

5:24

and plans because a lot of people their

5:26

plans are I built this perfect plan

5:30

if the plan didn't work obviously we

5:31

weren't meant to do this or I'm giving

5:33

up or you know we're not going to put

5:35

any more money towards this because the

5:37

plan

5:38

failed the plans are never perfect no

5:42

plan in the world is ever perfect you

5:45

know having that goal and here's the

5:48

thing here's the thing about goals I'll

5:50

say you can set a ton of goals all day

5:53

long but if you if your plan doesn't

5:56

actually get you forward move you

5:59

forward to achieve those goals that's

6:01

another thing too on the flip side is

6:03

like you can put goals all day long but

6:05

look man I'm not going to be a

6:07

billionaire in the next month it's not

6:09

achievable right so I do think uh at any

6:13

point in time you set a goal to yourself

6:15

and if your plans whatever different

6:18

versions of it a b c d whatever backup

6:20

and z and Zed and all that uh if if it

6:24

doesn't help you achieve that goal

6:25

doesn't show you that path to get to

6:27

that goal then then

6:29

it's not a plan either right so so I was

6:32

actually talking to someone about this

6:33

about uh their business they're

6:35

launching their business and I said look

6:37

hey you're starting at Square zero right

6:40

you're at like not even one you C you

6:41

haven't even taken a step yet like they

6:43

haven't even filed for the paperwork yet

6:45

right so I said okay look look I think

6:48

at this stage where you're at is you

6:50

definitely need to have a plan of where

6:52

you want to go and what you see right do

6:54

a:

6:56

need to with your year end goal and then

6:58

do a six month month checkpoint and just

7:00

kind of see where you are and to make

7:03

sure that come

7:05

December you you're not disappointed or

7:08

surprised or stressing out you already

7:10

knew you know since day one if if your

7:13

goal to sell a million dollar in you

7:16

know Revenue this year then you know you

7:18

need to sell I don't know making numbers

7:19

up someone help me math you need to sell

7:22

a th a day a 10,000 a day right like so

7:25

maybe if that if your numbers oriented

7:27

then you will know hey I didn't close

7:29

$10,000 in business today better make

7:31

sure I've got a plan in place to hustle

7:33

to make up for that right otherwise

7:35

you're no longer to plan working to plan

7:39

if it is something where you're finding

7:40

yourself oh I didn't sell you know

7:42

10,000 and it's five days in a row now

7:43

it's 50,000 and it starts like doing

7:45

this real like uphill climb then maybe

7:48

it's time to reevaluate your goal or

7:52

reevaluate your plan or re or re

7:55

re-evaluate your plan I mean it's just

7:57

uh you can have so much fun with us

7:59

people I feel like so inspired is that

8:02

okay let's ask I mean I get it holiday

8:05

break and all that good stuff and New

8:07

Years I'm sure there's probably a lot of

8:08

people still hung over from the holiday

8:10

you know January 1 celebrations let's be

8:12

honest um shockingly I'm not but no

8:18

uh why do you think we act like January

8:21

should be like the beginning of a new

8:23

leaf and new life is it just a mental

8:26

thing or is it like a true like no this

8:29

is your real opportunity to like start a

8:32

new is it I guess my question is is it

8:35

just in our head could we just do this

8:37

in March as well couldn't we well it's a

8:40

it's a calendar thought process I mean

8:41

here's the thing government year end is

8:44

March 31st in a lot of respects you know

8:47

at least in Canada government year end

8:50

in a lot of respects on a provincial and

8:52

and a federal basis is March 31st so so

8:55

their plans started new on on April 1

8:57

you know in the in the Jewish New Year

9:00

the Jewish New Year is sometime in

9:02

either late September or early October

9:04

it's lunar lunar calendar based so it

9:06

doesn't have follow the Gregorian

9:08

calendar but people plan their their

9:10

years based on that new year so new

9:14

years's is basically a moment in time

9:17

that we sit there we've we've we've gone

9:19

and we've reflected up to a point in

9:21

time and we said okay now we're doing

9:25

something new and the question is you

9:28

know is that what Monday morning is is

9:31

Monday morning your brand new

9:34

reset because you're sitting there going

9:36

okay I've gone through the weekend I've

9:37

gone through a week now I've got to

9:39

reset and I'm starting again you know

9:41

the joke that I used to say when I first

9:43

started out of business is is yeah I

9:45

wake up every every Monday morning brok

9:47

and

9:48

unemployed and you know and you but it

9:50

forces you to be able to sit there say

9:53

okay what's my goal what's my plan what

9:55

am I looking to do you know I think that

9:58

there's two things going back one point

10:00

to to to a previous point you said a

10:03

goal without a plan is a dream oh yeah

10:08

okay and when we and when we think about

10:11

it if we don't have a plan to get

10:13

there if we may have a goal but if we

10:16

don't have a plan to get there even if

10:18

that plan needs to be adjusted if we

10:20

don't sit there and say look here's our

10:22

goal here's our plan to get there wait a

10:24

second this plan isn't working okay why

10:26

does it still meet the goal no wait a

10:28

second here okay need to readjust the

10:29

plan but you need to have that plan

10:31

because that gets you stepping in the

10:33

right direction okay because if we don't

10:36

take that first step will'll never reach

10:37

our goal you know everybody January 1 is

10:40

say I'm gonna lose weight I'm gonna stop

10:42

drinking I'm gonna you know spend less

10:44

time on on myself c phone I'm gonna

10:45

spend more time with my kids and then

10:48

the World shows up and the World shows

10:51

up and those are plans you know I've got

10:53

I've got a plan to do this but there

10:56

isn't a tangible reason in your mind of

10:59

why you're doing it in the first place I

11:01

want to I I want to put down my cell

11:04

phone more because it's important for me

11:06

not to have my kids grow up singing you

11:08

know a cat Steven song you know I don't

11:11

I don't want people think cat in The Cat

11:13

in the Cradle and when I when when I'm

11:16

62 years old and my kids you don't want

11:18

to see me and I've never seen my own

11:20

grandchildren because I spend more time

11:22

with my head in my phone then I do this

11:24

to just say I'm going to put my phone

11:26

down you know more you never will you

11:31

need to have a specific reason and a

11:33

specific goal of why you're doing it and

11:36

the more specific you can be the more

11:37

tangible and the more narrow focused

11:39

that goal can be the easier it is to

11:42

achieve the more you know when we try to

11:45

do these broad reaching aspirational

11:48

goals that are Loosey Goosey and have no

11:51

timeline no no Finish Line they're not

11:54

they're not measurable they're not

11:56

accountable and they don't have they

11:57

don't have the ability to be tangible

12:00

the less chance we have of achieving

12:02

them so we need we need to have both the

12:05

goal the plan and we need to know the

12:07

difference between a goal and a

12:13

dream yes yes well look mister I will

12:17

say this much

12:20

I don't do New Year's resolutions

12:23

largely because I don't put a plan in

12:25

place because my goals are usually

12:27

outrageous because I know in the back of

12:29

my mind I'm like ain't

12:32

changing I'm I'm celebrating a big year

12:34

this year if I haven't done it I'm not

12:37

going to do it in that way I think

12:39

there's something that in me this year

12:40

might me will I might change but come on

12:42

man like I'm just I'm not g to get up at

12:45

4 in the morning I'm just not I'm just

12:46

not gonna do it people I just won't you

12:49

know if I'm up at 4 you may go to bed at

12:51

4 o'clock in the morning but you're not

12:52

getting up at 4 in the morning look if

12:55

I'm up at 4 it's cuz Mama's getting on a

12:57

plane and she's going to go some

12:58

somewhere on vac okay like no that's the

13:01

only time I would get up at 4 in the

13:03

morning without wanting to like shoot

13:04

darts at whomever like I'm looking at

13:06

you

13:07

know but uh you know but I think it's

13:10

admirable I think uh you know whatever

13:11

it is that everyone's I'm like I'm

13:13

curious everyone that's like you know if

13:14

you're still alive you know people happy

13:16

New Year hello it's

13:18

2024 would love to hear your

13:22

thoughts I would like to hear your

13:24

thoughts everyone because it's you know

13:26

I think plan having a plan is good but

13:28

think it's like almost like a it checks

13:30

and balances each other right like if

13:32

you set a lofty goal and is your plan

13:36

executable right and then and the same

13:38

token is your plan executable based on

13:40

your goal right like I think it goes

13:42

back is your goal realistic yeah 100o

13:45

hundo I'm not going to lose 100 pounds

13:47

in the next 365 days it ain't G to

13:50

happen unless I'm sitting there on my

13:52

deathbed and all of a sudden you know

13:53

the entire body is sucked out from

13:55

underneath me you know so at that point

13:57

in time that really wasn't my aim or my

13:59

goal in the first place so we need to

14:02

sit there and

14:03

say I've set this

14:05

goal can I achieve it and why do I why

14:09

is this goal important to me like why do

14:12

I care about this do I care about this

14:15

because it's important to me or because

14:18

oh God I should lose weight because my

14:19

doctor told me that I'm 20 pounds

14:21

overweight yeah whatever you know my

14:23

doctor's 20 PBS overweight so you know

14:25

it's it's hard hard for me to get you

14:27

know really excited about it my doctor's

14:29

as much overweight as I

14:32

am hey man we're all humans that's the

14:35

other thing we're all humans and I think

14:36

like hey by the way what we're talking

14:38

about here yeah it was like a little bit

14:39

about like personal goals and whatnot

14:41

but the truth of this this professional

14:43

too as far as like our bus go for

14:46

businesses very much to our business

14:49

plan are we going to assume that sales

14:52

performance is going to be X this year

14:54

um based on the current products that

14:56

you sell or whatever service is it

14:58

something that's going to be even

14:59

marketable for this year maybe whatever

15:00

Services you offered last year is not

15:02

going to be as attractive or needed it's

15:05

it's definitely something to hopefully

15:07

you guys all did those exercises but

15:09

it's never too late so it's a new year

15:11

new opportunities be open be happy don't

15:14

worry be happy that's my close exactly

15:17

the year one quick one quick story and

15:20

then I'm going to let everybody go back

15:23

in:

15:27

they had this goal of 20 million in

15:30

2020 and I said that's nice

15:35

why why and how does this benefit your

15:38

staff how are you going to get your

15:40

staff on board how are you going to get

15:42

your staff excited how are you going to

15:44

motivate them to be able to make this so

15:46

it's important to them what are you

15:47

going to be able to

15:49

achieve that you can't now when you get

15:51

to the $20 million Mark and is it and if

15:54

you get $20 million and you get it at 5%

15:56

margin are you going to be happy

16:00

and I got nothing but blank

16:03

stairs none of them had thought about

16:06

any of these things of course well guess

16:08

what came they got punched in the face

16:11

they never met their goal and I don't

16:13

think they've met their goal to this

16:14

point but the thing is if you can't

16:19

articulate your goals and you can't get

16:21

people to Aspire because you've inspired

16:25

them those goals on the corporate side
